NASCAR: 5 possible Trackhouse Racing drivers for 2022
By Randy Smith
With Trackhouse Racing Team purchasing Chip Ganassi Racing, they now have an open seat heading into the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season. Here are five possible drivers to fill that seat next year.
Trackhouse Racing Team shocked the NASCAR world on Wednesday afternoon when they announced that they will be purchasing Chip Ganassi Racing after the 2021 Cup Series season.
They will acquire both charters from Chip Ganassi Racing and operate out of Chip Ganassi Racing’s current shop in Concord, North Carolina. Chip Ganassi said that his NASCAR team “was not for sale” but added how Trackhouse co-owner and former NASCAR driver Justin Marks came to him with “a great offer and an even better vision”.
The relationship between Ganassi and Marks goes back several years to when Marks drove for Chip Ganassi Racing in the Xfinity Series. He secured his lone NASCAR victory with the team at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 2016.
After Marks called Ganassi several months ago to see if there was interest in Ganassi selling his team, the deal is official, and a new era is set to begin next year.
Ganassi will still be involved in the racing world, fielding entries the NTT IndyCar Series, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and Extreme E.
Though the team co-owned by Grammy Award-winning artist Pitbull will obtain both charters from Ganassi’s team, one spot is already filled. Current Trackhouse driver Daniel Suarez is set to continue to drive the #99 Chevrolet next year.
Trackhouse had been looking to expand to a two-car team in 2022, and they have now reached that goal. Here are some potential candidates to drive their second car.
