Trackhouse Racing Team will acquire the entire Chip Ganassi Racing NASCAR Cup Series operation following the 2021 season.

Former NASCAR driver Justin Marks announced the creation of Trackhouse Racing Team last October, and he announced Daniel Suarez as the driver of the #99 Chevrolet for their first season in 2021.

Then in January, it was announced that Grammy Award-winning musical artist Pitbull would join the team as a co-owner.

Trackhouse Racing Team use a charter to run the #99 Chevrolet for Suarez, but it is a charter that has been leased to them by Spire Motorsports. With each charter able to be leased for one season from 2021 to 2024, this is not a charter that they would have been able to use in 2022.

However, this isn’t going to be an issue for the new team beyond the 2021 season.

Marks announced on Wednesday afternoon that Trackhouse Racing Team will acquire the entire Chip Ganassi Racing NASCAR operation, with all changes set to go into effect after the 2021 season.

He announced that Trackhouse Racing Team will acquire all of the team’s equipment as well as the two charters which they currently use to run the #1 Chevrolet for Kurt Busch and the #42 Chevrolet for Ross Chastain. They plan to work out of the current Chip Ganassi Racing building in the 2022 season.

Here is what Marks, who competed for Chip Ganassi Racing in the Xfinity Series for several years, had to say about this decision when it was revealed along with team president Ty Norris and Chip Ganassi Racing CEO Chip Ganassi at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

"“This process took several weeks and I want to thank Chip for being so open and candid with me every step of the journey. Chip has built an iconic motorsports empire and the Ganassi brand is globally recognized as a winner in the auto racing industry.”"

Ganassi, who had no plans of selling his team until Marks came to him with a great offer, also currently fields teams in the NTT IndyCar Series, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and Extreme E.

Here is what he had to say.

"“My NASCAR team was not for sale. Justin simply came to me with a great offer and an even better vision. As everyone knows, I care deeply for my employees so selling to someone like Justin, who is part of the CGR family, made the reality of selling much easier.”"

As for this year’s Trackhouse Racing Team, Suarez sits in 18th place in the point standings through 19 races with three top 10 finishes, including a season-high fourth place finish in the dirt race at Bristol Motor Speedway back in late March. His average finish is 18.1.

Suarez is set to return to the team in 2022 as the driver of the #99 Chevrolet, but it has not yet been announced who will pilot their second car.
