Possible 2022 Trackhouse Racing drivers: No. 1 – Ryan Preece

Ryan Preece has found himself in an interesting position this season, driving for JTG Daugherty Racing full-time but in a non-chartered car.

Preece’s tenure with JTG Daugherty Racing has been an interesting one to say the least. He drove the #47 Chevrolet in his first year with the team in 2019 before moving to the #37 Chevrolet when former Roush Fenway Racing driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. signed to replace Chris Buescher for 2020. Since then, Preece has effectively been playing second fiddle to Stenhouse, and the lack of a charter adds to that.

Ironically enough, this lack of a charter might have been the motivation Preece needed to perform at a higher level. This season, he has already scored three top nine finishes after recording three throughout the entire 2019 season and just one more in 2020.

Additionally, Preece is letting his driving potential be shown outside of the Cup Series. He earned his first win in his first career start in the Truck Series when he raced for David Gilliland Racing and at Nashville Superspeedway last month.

Preece doesn’t bring sponsorship or much funding with him, but Trackhouse have shown to get the most out of their driver in year number one. Daniel Suarez has had a career resurgence with the team, earning three top nine finishes so far this year.

A chartered car and a team that seem to be coming out of the gates strong on and off the track could be the perfect situation for Preece.
