Possible 2022 Trackhouse Racing drivers: No. 2 – Ryan Newman

It is still unclear where, when or how Ryan Newman will drive in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, but he has said that he wants to continue driving.

Staying in his current ride behind the wheel of the #6 Ford at Roush Fenway Racing is not really an option, with Team Penske driver Brad Keselowski slated to take his spot with a driver/owner role starting next year.

While there is always an option for a third car to be fielded for Newman at the newly formed Roush-Fenway-Keselowski Racing team next year, it seems more likely that he will have to consider other options if he wants to continue racing in the Cup Series.

Trackhouse is an option which both sides should consider. For the 43-year-old South Bend, Indiana native, driving in a chartered car would guarantee him another full-time ride and another shot to fulfill his dream of adding his name to the list of Cup Series champions.

For Trackhouse, a veteran presence in a former Daytona 500 winner and a former Brickyard 400 winner could add to their success and development.

However, Newman currently sits below Suarez in the point standings, and he hasn’t won a race since 2017 when he won at Phoenix Raceway, then driving for Richard Childress Racing. It is also unclear what kind of funding he would bring with him.

But while Newman might not be the coveted free agent Trackhouse are looking for in their second driver, enough mutual interest could be all that is needed for him to land an opportunity with a newer team and continue to race full-time.
