The starting lineup for the second race at the Red Bull Ring on the 2021 Formula 1 schedule is set following today’s qualifying session.

For the second weekend in a row, Formula 1 is set to run at race at the Red Bull Ring, which also hosted two races in the 2020 season to make up for other cancellations on the schedule due to COVID-19-related restrictions.

This Sunday afternoon’s race is the originally scheduled Austrian Grand Prix; last weekend’s race was the Styrian Grand Prix.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took the pole position for last weekend’s race at the Milton Keynes-based team’s home track before going on to lead every lap of the race, and he took the pole position for tomorrow afternoon’s race as well.

Verstappen took the pole position for this 71-lap race around the 10-turn, 2.683-mile (4.318-kilometer) road course in Spielberg, Styria, Austria by recording a top lap time of 63.720 seconds (151.582 miles per hour) in the third and final round of qualifying for the race.

Set to start alongside Verstappen on the front row in second place following a stellar qualifying effort is McLaren’s Lando Norris. His top lap time in the third and final round of qualifying was 63.768 seconds (151.458 miles per hour), which was only 0.048 seconds (0.124 miles per hour) slower than that of Verstappen.

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez qualified in third place, keeping the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas outside of the top three. Hamilton, who trails Verstappen by 18 points in the driver standings, qualified in fourth ahead of Bottas in fifth.

The AlphaTauri duo of Pierre Gasly and rookie Yuki Tsunoda qualified in sixth and seventh, respectively. The Aston Martin duo of Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll also made it into the third and final round of qualifying, and they were split by Williams’ George Russell.

However, Vettel was later issued a three-position grid penalty for impeding Alpine’s Fernando Alonso toward the end of the second round of qualifying.
