NASCAR: 2021 Road America qualifying – Full starting lineup
By Asher Fair
The fifth qualifying session of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season set the starting lineup for the second ever race at Road America.
The NASCAR Cup Series is set for the Jockey Made in America 250 Presented by Kwik Trip, the series’ first race at Road America since 1956 and just its second ever race at the track, later this afternoon.
For just the fifth time through 20 races on the 2021 schedule and second time in four road course races, the Cup Series set the starting lineup by using an actual qualifying session.
Only two more starting lineups are slated to be set by actual qualifying sessions throughout the remaining 16 races on the 2021 schedule.

There is set to be a qualifying session for the inaugural race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on Sunday, August 15 as well as one for the season finale at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, November 7. The latter is the only one of the 10 races on the playoff schedule which is set to see a qualifying session.
As for this afternoon, Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron took the pole position for this 62-lap race around the 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) natural terrain road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin by recording a top lap time of 132.049 seconds (110.359 miles per hour) in the 12-car final round of qualifying for this race behind the wheel of his #24 Chevrolet.
Set to start alongside Byron on the front row in second place behind the wheel of his #5 Chevrolet is teammate Kyle Larson. Chevrolet swept the top four, with Kaulig Racing’s A.J. Allmendinger qualifying in third behind the wheel of his #16 Chevrolet and Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick qualifying in fourth behind the wheel of his #8 Chevrolet.
The highest qualifying Ford driver was Team Penske’s Austin Cindric in fifth place behind the wheel of his #33 Ford. The highest qualifying Toyota driver was Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin in seventh behind the wheel of his #11 Toyota.
Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott, who has won five of the last seven road course races, is set to start in 34th place behind the wheel of his #9 Chevrolet after two separate caution flag periods hindered his runs while he was at full speed.
