Formula 1: Aston Martin hint Sebastian Vettel’s contract length
By Asher Fair
Lewis Hamilton signed a multi-year contract extension with the Mercedes Formula 1 team over the weekend, leading to an interesting tweet from Aston Martin.
During what ended up being his sixth and final season with Ferrari last year, four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel signed with Racing Point, which have since been rebranded as Aston Martin, for the 2021 season.
The length of the 53-time Grand Prix winner’s contract was not announced when he signed his deal, but it was referred to as a multi-year deal, meaning that he is under contract through at least the 2022 season.
Now, thanks to seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton signing a contract extension with Mercedes, we can infer that Vettel’s deal actually runs beyond the 2022 season.

Hamilton, who signed only a one-year deal to stay with the Silver Arrows for a ninth season ahead of the 2021 campaign, has extended his deal with the team to run through the 2023 season.
That news, which had been speculated for quite some time, was announced ahead of this past weekend’s Styrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. As a result of this confirmation, Aston Martin shared a message on Twitter which states that we have “two more years of Sewis”, a combination of two of the sport’s three all-time winningest drivers.

So with that being the case, it is implied that Vettel’s contract does not expire until the end of the 2023 season at the absolute earliest.
Sebastian Vettel’s first season with Aston Martin has been an interesting one so far. He finished in second place in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku City Circuit, but that is one of only three races in which he has scored points through nine events so far this year. He sits in 10th in the driver standings with 30 points, 16 points and two places ahead of teammate Lance Stroll.
