The starting lineup for the first ever Formula 1 sprint qualifying race was set in Friday’s qualifying session at Silverstone Circuit.
After much anticipation, sprint qualifying is set to make its Formula 1 debut this weekend at Silverstone Circuit ahead of the British Grand Prix.
The starting lineup for this race, a 17-lap sprint race around the 18-turn, 3.661-mile (5.892-kilometer) road course in Silverstone, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom was set via a typical three-round, knockout qualifying session.
Lewis Hamilton took the pole position for this sprint race by recording a top lap time of 86.134 seconds (153.013 miles per hour) in the third and final round of qualifying for the race.

Set to start alongside Hamilton on the front row in second place is Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, whose top lap time of 86.209 seconds (152.880 miles per hour) was just 0.075 seconds (0.133 miles per hour) slower than that of the seven-time world champion.
The second row is set to feature Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas in third place and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in fourth. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez initially qualified in fourth but was dropped to fifth due to a track limits penalty.
Hamilton is listed by WynnBET as the +100 favorite to win the sprint qualifying race and the +110 favorite to win the British Grand Prix. Verstappen is listed as the second favorite for both at +130.

While the sprint qualifying race is intended to set the starting lineup for the main 52-lap event on Sunday, there will also be a few points awarded in it as well. The sprint qualifying race winner will receive three points while the runner-up will receive two and the third place finisher will receive one.
