Formula 1 betting odds shift dramatically after Silverstone qualifying

The betting odds for Sunday’s Formula 1 race at Silverstone Circuit shifted dramatically after the qualifying session for the sprint race.
Entering British Grand Prix race weekend, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was listed by WynnBET as the betting favorite to secure the victory, which would be his sixth of the 2021 Formula 1 season. He has won the last three and four of the last five races, and Red Bull have won five in a row.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, who has won three of the four races not won by Verstappen through nine races this year, was listed as the second favorite, but well behind Verstappen.

Verstappen was listed at -125, and Hamilton was listed at +200. But this has now changed dramatically following Friday’s qualifying session.

The British Grand Prix is set to be contested at Silverstone Circuit, which is back to hosting just one race this year after hosting two last year to make up for others that were canceled due to COVID-19-related restrictions.
The second race hosted by the track last season was called the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. Hamilton won last year’s British Grand Prix and Verstappen won last year’s 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

Who is on pole for the British Grand Prix?
The starting lineup is set, but only for the sprint qualifying race. This is the first time that a sprint qualifying race is set to determine the starting lineup for the race itself. The starting lineup for the sprint race was determined by a traditional three-round, knockout qualifying session, the kind of session typically used to determine the starting lineup for a full length race.

British Grand Prix betting odds
Between Verstappen and Hamilton, things are a lot different than they were entering the week. Not only are they a lot closer odds-wise, but Hamilton is now the favorite at +110, with Verstappen close behind at +130.
The only other two drivers worth considering placing a bet on are Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas at +900 and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, the only winner other than Verstappen or Hamilton so far this season, at +1700. Everybody else is listed at +4000 or worse, and nobody else in the field really has a chance to win, barring some sort of unforeseen chaos.
British Grand Prix betting prediction
If you believe that Hamilton can win the race, a race he has already won a record seven times in his legendary career, and didn’t bet on him when he was listed at +200, don’t wait any longer. He is also the favorite to win the sprint qualifying race at +100, ahead of Verstappen at +130, and if he wins that, his odds to win the British Grand Prix itself are going to improve.
While he hasn’t yet secured the official British Grand Prix pole, he does have the pole for the sprint race, putting himself in prime position to take the pole for the main event. The last time he started from the pole position was at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the Spanish Grand Prix back in May, and he won that race.
On the flip side, Verstappen was the heavy favorite entering the weekend, so now could also be a good time to bet on him as well, given the fact that a few hundredths of a second in qualifying suddenly turned him into an underdog. Did he really deserve to drop by that much? Are he and Red Bull really behind this weekend?
