The NASCAR Cup Series is set for the penultimate road course race and the 23rd of 26 overall races on the 2021 regular season schedule this Sunday following two weekends off for the Summer Olympics.
The starting lineup for Sunday’s 90-lap Go Bowling at The Glen, the fifth of seven road course races on the entire 36-race schedule, was set by the lineup formula that has set the starting lineup for most races going all the way back to last August.

Qualifying is set to return for next weekend’s inaugural race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course and then again for the season finale at Phoenix Raceway in early November.

After being wiped off the calendar last season as a result of COVID-19-related restrictions in the state of New York, the Go Bowling at The Glen is back at Watkins Glen International, an eight-turn, 2.454-mile (3.949-kilometer) road course in Watkins Glen, New York.
The track hosted its first Cup Series race in 1957, and it had hosted one Cup Series race per season for 34 consecutive years prior to last year. This Sunday’s race at the track is set to be the 38th.

Who is on the pole at Watkins Glen?
Based on NASCAR’s starting lineup formula, Team Penske, Brad Keselowski is set to to lead the field to the green flag behind the wheel of his #2 Ford in his first start following the announcement that he is set to move to Roush Fenway Racing as not only a driver but a team co-owner next season.
It is slated to be Team Penske 1-2-3 start, with Joey Logano starting alongside Keselowski on the front row in second place behind the wheel of his #22 Ford and Ryan Blaney starting in third behind the wheel of his #12 Ford. Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson is set to join Blaney on the second row in fourth behind the wheel of his #5 Chevrolet.

Watkins Glen betting prediction
Chase Elliott is the clear favorite to win at Watkins Glen International for obvious reasons. He is listed at +160, which is about as heavy of a favorite as you’ll find for any Cup Series race.
He secured his first career Cup Series win at the track in August 2018 and won there again in August 2019. He now has seven career road course race victories, all in his most recent 11 starts, and he has vaulted his way into the top three in all-time road course wins — at the age of only 25.
While he won’t be starting inside the top 10, he has proven that he can win road course races from the back, doing so twice at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, once after a wreck, and doing so at Road America last month. You’re better off not betting against him.
However, if you’re looking for good value picks, take a look at Christopher Bell (+1400), Chase Briscoe (+3000), Tyler Reddick (+3000), and Ross Chastain (+3000).
Bell won the season’s first road course race at the Daytona International Speedway road course, and he ran second to Elliott at Road America. He is emerging as a legitimate contender to win at tracks with both left and right turns.
As for the other three, they are all still seeking their first career victories. They may need to find them to get into the playoffs, and all have performed well on the road courses, with only a combined two finishes outside of the top nine among them in the last three road course events.
Brad Keselowksi’s odds are also considerably low at +2000. Let’s not forget, he is the race polesitter, yet he isn’t listed inside the top 10.
