Noah Gragson landing spots: No. 3 – A return to JR Motorsports

While Noah Gragson has said that he has no idea what his plans are for the 2022 NASCAR season, a return to JR Motorsports shouldn’t be out of the question.

The team for which he has won twice in the Xfinity Series could decide to keep him in the #9 Chevrolet and field a fifth car to avoid losing any of their current drivers. There isn’t a rule regarding the amount of cars an Xfinity Series team can run, as opposed to the Cup Series, where a team can only run four cars full-time.

A driver lineup consisting of Michael Annett, Justin Allgaier, Josh Berry, Sam Mayer and Noah Gragson would give JR Motorsports even more of a title chance than they already have, and with the 2020 season’s three winningest drivers and the 2021 season’s winningest driver gone from Xfinity Series, there shouldn’t be a ton of competition in JR Motorsports’ way for 2022.

Gragson has not had nearly the success in 2021 that he did in 2020 with JR Motorsports when he won twice, but he was a few laps away from winning at Homestead-Miami Speedway back in late February before a blown tire on David Starr’s #13 Toyota sent him straight into Gragson, ruining his chance at securing the win.

DNFs have plagued Gragson’s 2021 season to say the least. He came into the year with only four DNFs to his name in two seasons with JR Motorsports. Through 21 races in 2021, he already has six. But he has still managed to obtain seven top five finishes.

“Close but no cigar” might be the phrase that most accurately describes Gragson’s 2021 season, but the relationship he has built with JR Motorsports shouldn’t be discredited. And as mentioned, he brings quite a bit of funding with him. Another one-year contract could be entirely possible for the driver of the #9 Chevrolet.
