Top remaining free agents for 2022: No. 3 – Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

JTG Daugherty Racing have run the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season with one chartered car and one non-chartered car. The former has been driven by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. since the 2020 season, and the latter has been driven by Ryan Preece since the same.

In 2020, however, both cars were chartered cars. But after a single season of running one chartered car and one non-chartered car, the team have made the decision to run just a chartered car next season.

Stenhouse would presumably be the driver they retain for 2022 if they don’t choose to bring in somebody totally new. He has been the better of the team’s two drivers since the 2020 season began, and it was the charter for Preece’s car, not Stenhouse’s, which they sold ahead of the 2021 season.

While “Wrecky Spinhouse” has somewhat of a bad reputation among drivers on the race track, the fact that he has been able to get the most out of subpar equipment while driving the #47 Chevrolet is undeniable.

His speed hasn’t been restricted solely to superspeedways as many expected when he signed with the team ahead of last year. In fact, his two top 10 finishes so far this season are a second place effort at the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt race and a sixth place effort in the inaugural race at Nashville Superspeedway.
