NASCAR Hall of Famer Tony Stewart furthered his motorsports legacy with a new racing series in Superstar Racing Experience (SRX). With a successful first year, the second season adds much intrigue.

The motorsports scene was revamped last year when a former and current NASCAR team owner paired up to form a racing series that combined legends and up-and-comers. Tony Stewart and Ray Evernham introduced the world to Superstar Racing Experience (SRX).

The inaugural season showed how “Super” the vision was, with NASCAR, IndyCar, and Formula 1 drivers all competing for victory at local short tracks.

A revision of the IROC series, SRX brought back the “Saturday Night Lights” racing style back to television, with the series broadcast live on CBS for six straight weeks during the summer months.

Stewart won the inaugural series championship, having won the most races and scored the most podium finishes among all drivers. In a traditional points format, “Smoke” was the favorite to add another trophy to his collection all season long.

And with a new schedule set for the 2022 season, SRX has added even more excitement and created even more intrigue than the inaugural season.

SRX recently announced the 2022 schedule, sticking with the same six-race format but including a number of new venues.

The tracks at which SRX will race are historic. Five Flags Speedway, home of the Snowball Derby, kicks off the season. The Snowball Derby is a short track race which NASCAR Cup Series champions Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott have both won before.

But location and track owners play a prominent factor in this year’s potential roster.

Looking at some of the locations of the tracks creates serious intrigue. South Boston, Virginia is the home of former NASCAR drivers Ward and Jeff Burton. With SRX having one-off drivers in their series, also known as “ringers”, it wouldn’t be outlandish to think that SRX and company will reach out to the Burtons.

I-55 Raceway is co-owned by Ken Schrader, who tested the SRX cars last season, adding to the list of possible ringers. Missouri is also the home state of former NASCAR driver Carl Edwards, who hinted at being interested in a one-off effort when NASCAR held their dirt race at Bristol Motor Speedway last March.

Stafford Motor Speedway and Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway are both on the schedule for a second straight year, but with the 2022 roster yet to be announced, it’s a mystery as to who could be the ringers for those events.

Lastly, there is Sharon Speedway, which is owned by Dave Blaney, another former Cup Series driver and father of current driver Ryan Blaney.

SRX finished last season off with a father-son race between Chase Elliott and his father, full-time SRX driver Bill Elliott. If SRX can work out a deal out with Team Penske owner Roger Penske, a father-son race this year between the Blaneys could very well be in the picture.

With the driver lineup and schedule yet to be announced yet, there is still much to speculate about. But with a stacked schedule which includes several races in the backyards of some familiar faces to NASCAR, SRX, and motorsports as a whole, the future looks bright.
