Two drivers have been penalized and will be sent to the rear of the field ahead of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500.

After failing pre-race inspection multiple times, the #14 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford of Chase Briscoe and the #16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet of Daniel Hemric must drop to the rear of the field ahead of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

Briscoe was originally slated to start this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) high-banked oval in Daytona Beach, Florida in ninth place, while Hemric was originally slated to start in 33rd.

As a result, both drivers are set to drop to the tail end of the inside lane for the start, and everybody who was slated to start in the odd positions behind them is set to move up.

Two other cars were already slated to drop to the rear of the field: the #22 Team Penske Ford of Joey Logano and the #27 Team Hezeberg Ford of Jacques Villeneuve.

Logano was slated to start the race in 20th place but is set to drop to the rear after his team went to a backup car following his last-lap crash in the second Bluegreen Vacations Duel. Villeneuve was already slated to start in 40th (last); his penalty comes as a result of an engine change.

Those two drivers are set to drop to the tail end of the outside lane for the start, and everybody who was slated to start in the even positions behind Logano is set to move up (except Villeneuve).

This means that Briscoe is set to start in 37th place while Logano is set to start in 38th, Hemric is set to start in 39th and Villeneuve is set to start in 40th.
