NASCAR: 2022 Richmond – Full starting lineup, updates

Keep tabs on Saturday’s qualifying session for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway, the Toyota Owners 400.

For the first time in three weeks, the NASCAR Cup Series is set to use a single-car qualifying session to set the starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway.

Three weeks ago, Phoenix Raceway hosted the most recent single-car qualifying session. But the following weekend, qualifying was canceled at Atlanta Motor Speedway due to schedule changes caused by rain.

Last week featured the first road course race of the season at Circuit of the Americas, so the single-car qualifying format was not used.

But the single-car qualifying session for this Sunday afternoon’s 400-lap race around the four-turn, 0.75-mile (1.207-kilometer) oval in Richmond, Virginia is still set to be a bit different than the other single-car qualifying sessions that took place earlier in the season.

Unlike past qualifying sessions under the new qualifying format, each car is set to make a two-lap qualifying effort as opposed to just a one-lap qualifying effort, due to the short length of the track.

Drivers are still split into two groups based on the results of the most recent race, and the qualifying order is still determined by the qualifying formula. The fastest five drivers from each group advance to the second round, where all 10 get another two-lap qualifying run to vie for the pole position.
