Keep tabs on Friday night’s qualifying session for Saturday night’s Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 NASCAR Cup Series at Martinsville Speedway.

The eighth race of the 36-race 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season is the first of two scheduled to take place at Martinsville Speedway.

This race, the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400, has traditionally been the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500. But for the first time since 1956, this race is set to be a 400-lap race as opposed to a 500-lap race around the four-turn, 0.526-mile (0.847-kilometer) oval in Ridgeway, Virginia.

The qualifying format which was introduced for the 2022 season is set to be utilized, with drivers split up into two groups based on last week’s race results and the order determined by the formula previously used to set starting lineups when qualifying wasn’t being held.

Each driver is set to make a two-lap qualifying run, and the top five drivers from each group advance to the second round, where they each get another two-lap qualifying run to vie for the pole position.

The second group determines the top 10 in the starting lineup, and the rest of the lineup is set by the speeds posted in round one (irrespective of group).
