Possible Mick Schumacher 2023 landing spots: No. 3 – Alpine

Perhaps the most watched open seat, following all of the recent silly season chaos, is the second Alpine seat, which will be vacated by Fernando Alonso when he moves to Aston Martin to replace Sebastian Vettel behind the wheel of the seat for which Vettel backed Mick Schumacher.

Despite Alpine’s intentions to put reserve driver Oscar Piastri in their second seat, Piastri denied the team release stating that it was a done deal, and all signs now point to him moving to McLaren to replace Daniel Ricciardo.

The Enstone outfit have made clear that they would welcome back Ricciardo, who left the team when they were still branded Renault following the 2020 season to join McLaren, if that’s how things play out; it’s not a situation where they will absolutely refuse to sign him because he left them previously.

But they have also stated that they have confidence in Esteban Ocon to take on a lead driver role, which would indicate that they haven’t ruled out signing a young driver, and with Ricciardo having had talks with other teams, including Haas, that seems to be on the table.

And it makes sense, considering they literally did originally announce that they had signed one in Piastri.

If that is indeed the case, why not take a chance on Schumacher?

His recent improvement in form and point-scoring efforts for a resurgent Haas team show that he is capable of performing at a high level for a team capable of giving him a solid car, which is exactly what Alpine have proven they can do as they set up for an intense battle for fourth place in the constructor standings with McLaren.
