Possible Nyck de Vries 2023 landing spots: No. 2 – AlphaTauri

AlphaTauri are in a peculiar position for 2023. As of now, Yuki Tsunoda has yet to sign a contract extension, and Pierre Gasly could still be on his way to Alpine, even with American IndyCar driver Colton Herta seemingly out of the running to take his seat. As the rumors regarding Gasly’s next move swirl, could Nyck de Vries secure a place in the Red Bull Formula 1 family?

Christian Horner and Helmut Marko could view de Vries as a valuable potential future teammate to Max Verstappen, should Sergio Perez choose to move on from Red Bull once his contract expires at the end of 2024. A stint with AlphaTauri would give de Vries time to develop and mature as a Formula 1 driver, with an opportunity to move up to a top team in the future.

Should de Vries succeed with Red Bull’s Italian sister team, it could mean continued success for the current championship-leading organization in future seasons. Perez and Verstappen have been a valuable pairing for Red Bull, and should Perez choose to leave, the team would have a proven driver to call up.

While the sample size for de Vries is small, it’s still worth noting that he is responsible for a third of Williams’ points in the 2022 season, setting that mark with just one race. Slotting him in next to another young driver could provide a boost to AlphaTauri’s Formula 1 aspirations of fighting for middle-of-the-table supremacy.
