NASCAR: 2022 Las Vegas playoff qualifying – Full starting lineup
By Asher Fair
Keep tabs on Saturday’s qualifying session for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series round of 8 playoff race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The round of 8 of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs is scheduled to get underway on Sunday afternoon at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with the South Point 400.
This 267-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Las Vegas, Nevada oval is the first of three races in the semifinal round. Prior to this year, the race had been contested in the round of 12.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin is the reigning winner of the race, and he is one of the eight remaining championship contenders heading into the round of 8. Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman won the race at the track back in March.
Qualifying groups for Sunday afternoon’s race were determined by the results of the most recent race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, and the order was determined by the qualifying formula (see here), though remaining playoff drivers and teams weren’t factored into that formula until all non-playoff drivers and teams were listed.
It is a single-car, single-lap session, and the five fastest drivers in each group advance to the second round to battle for the pole position. Beyond the top 10, the starting lineup is determined by round one speeds, irrespective of group number.
Follow along with our live qualifying updates for the South Point 400.
