Keep tabs on Saturday’s qualifying session for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series round of 8 playoff race at Martinsville Speedway.

The third and final race of the semifinal round of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs is scheduled to take place this Sunday afternoon at Martinsville Speedway.

Heading into the 500-lap round of 8 finale at the four-turn, 0.526-mile (0.847-kilometer) Ridgeway, Virginia oval, just one driver, Team Penske’s Joey Logano, has already clinched a spot in the Championship 4, leaving seven drivers to battle for the remaining three spots throughout the Xfinity 500.

The April winner at Martinsville Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron, is one of the three drivers who currently sits above the Championship 4 cut line but has not yet clinched a spot in the final round.

Qualifying groups for Sunday afternoon’s race were determined based on the results of the most recent race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The qualifying order was determined by the qualifying formula, which you can read about in more detail here.

The remaining playoff contenders weren’t factored into the formula until the non-playoff contenders were listed.

The session is a single-car, single-lap session, and the fastest five drivers in each of the two groups in the first round advance to the final round to battle for the pole position. Round two speeds determine the starting lineup’s top 10, while round one speeds, irrespective of group, determine the rest of the lineup.

Follow along with our live qualifying updates for the Xfinity 500.
