3 things fans want to see: No. 2 – Justin Allgaier wins, Ty Gibbs 2nd

Justin Allgaier is a two-time winner at Phoenix Raceway, and given the fact that he is still seeking his first NASCAR Xfinity Series championship, he probably wasn’t too upset by the fact that Ty Gibbs effectively handed him a spot in his fifth Championship 4 in the last seven years with his move on Brandon Jones at Martinsville Speedway.

In the Championship 4, the champion is simply the driver, among the four remaining contenders, who finishes highest in the season finale. It’s that simple.

If Allgaier wins at the four-turn, 1.058-mile (1.703-kilometer) Avondale, Arizona oval for the third time in his career, he would clinch the championship.

How ironic would it be if Gibbs finishes behind Allgaier in second place?

That scenario would obviously net Allgaier the championship. But had Allgaier not advanced — in other words, had Gibbs not pulled what he pulled at Martinsville Speedway — it would have resulted in Gibbs winning the championship.

Under this scenario, Gibbs would have cost himself a championship by wrecking Jones to secure a, for lack of a better word, unnecessary win at Martinsville Speedway.

But that isn’t the only potential ironic situation which could unfold at Phoenix Raceway because of his extremely ill-advised decision.
