3 things fans want to see: No. 3 – Brandon Jones wins, JRM contender 2nd

Brandon Jones also owns a victory at Phoenix Raceway, having won the race at the track back in March 2020. In fact, he held off former NASCAR Cup Series champions Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski to do so. He finished in second place there back in March of this year.

While delivering Joe Gibbs Racing a victory to wrap up his five-year run with the team probably doesn’t sound as appealing now as it would have before Ty Gibbs completely screwed him out of a Championship 4 spot, it’s very possible that he wins the season finale. He has exactly what it takes at this particular track to pull it off.

How ironic would it be if Jones wins the race ahead of one of the three JR Motorsports championship contenders in second place?

Under this scenario, the championship would go to the highest finishing JR Motorsports contender, not Jones, meaning that Gibbs would have denied Joe Gibbs Racing a title because of what he pulled at Martinsville Speedway. If not for what Gibbs did, this scenario would have resulted in Jones winning the title.

Of course, that would be somewhat devastating for Jones himself, as he did nothing wrong. But nobody ever said that everybody was going to be entirely pleased with the outcome, and the most devastating part of his elimination is probably already behind us.

All three JR Motorsports contenders have run well at Phoenix Raceway in the past. In addition to Justin Allgaier being a two-time winner at the track (March 2017 and November 2019), Noah Gragson won there back in March and Josh Berry finished in third place.

The potential for irony in this coming Saturday’s race certainly runs deep.
