Possible Mick Schumacher replacements: No. 3 – Nico Hulkenberg

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, Nico Hulkenberg emerged as the favorite to replace Mick Schumacher at Haas in 2023, and many expect the team to announce him as Schumacher’s replacement in the near future.

Of course, in some respect, it may be smart to take this with a grain of salt, given the fact that Hulkenberg has been linked to a number of seats before after losing his full-time Formula 1 seat with Renault following the 2019 season, and he hasn’t signed for any.

But while the 35-year-old German has not competed in the sport full-time in three years, he has made four starts since his departure, two with Aston Martin earlier this season and two with the team, then known as Racing Point (formerly Force India, for which he competed full-time from 2012 to 2016), in 2020.

The Aston Martin reserve driver is certainly not out of sight, out of mind by any stretch of the imagination, and a return after a three-year hiatus isn’t as far-fetched as it once might have seemed.

And let’s add that the pairing of Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen is one that Formula 1 fans would absolutely love to see, given their history together. The fact that Haas have a relatively competitive package, compared to previous years, could make it even more interesting and exciting, especially considering the former is still seeking his first podium finish.
