NASCAR: Trackhouse announce second Daniel Suarez extension
By Asher Fair
After signing a one-year extension during the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, Daniel Suarez has now signed a multi-year deal with Trackhouse Racing Team.
Daniel Suarez entered the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season without a contract to compete in 2023.
Trackhouse Racing Team expressed little doubt that Suarez would be back with the team in 2023, but his new deal only ended up being a one-year deal, thus keeping his name on the list of potential free agents for 2024.
Now we can scratch his name off that list, as the 31-year-old Mexican has agreed to a multi-year contract to remain behind the wheel of the No. 99 Chevrolet for the Justin Marks and Pitbull-owned team.
Daniel Suarez had a career year in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Suarez, who had previously lost his ride with two top-tier teams in Joe Gibbs Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing, found victory for the first time at Sonoma Raceway and securing his first ever playoff berth. He advanced to the round of 12 and nearly made it to the round of 8 before falling short at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval.
He stated when he joined the new organization before the 2021 season that he felt that they presented him with the best opportunity of his career. After being mocked by some for making that claim, following three winless and playoff-less seasons with those two aforementioned powerhouse teams, he has proven his doubters wrong thus far.
Overall, Wednesday proved to be a big day for pending free agents, and Hendrick Motorsports and Alex Bowman also reached an agreement to keep the latter behind the wheel of the No. 48 Chevrolet through the 2026 season, with primary sponsorship from Ally. Bowman had been the only one of Rick Hendrick’s drivers without a contract that ran through at least 2025.
Trackhouse Racing Team now have just one pending free agent on their roster, with Ross Chastain’s deal up after the 2023 season following a career year in 2022.
