Seven races into the 2023 Formula 1 season, only one of the six scheduled sprint weekends has been contested. When is the next?

The eighth race of the 22-race 2023 Formula 1 season is scheduled to take place this Sunday, June 18 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The Canadian Grand Prix is not a part of a sprint weekend, so at the one-third mark of the season, only one of the six scheduled sprint weekends will have taken place.

Baku City Circuit hosted the first sprint weekend of the season back in late April, and a new sprint format was debuted ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

On Friday, instead of two practice sessions, there is just one practice session, plus the qualifying session for Sunday’s full-length Grand Prix. Then on Saturday, there is a separate qualifying session for the sprint race.

The sprint race, which is still roughly one-third the distance of a Grand Prix, is now a standalone Saturday event, with points paid to the top eight finishers, from eight points to the winner down to one point for the eighth finisher. Its results do not determine the grid for Sunday’s main event, unlike in previous years.

So when is the next Formula 1 sprint race weekend?

The second sprint race weekend of the 2023 season is scheduled for Austrian Grand Prix weekend at the Red Bull Ring. The sprint race is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 1, while the main event is scheduled for Sunday, July 2.

Beyond the Austrian Grand Prix, there are still four more sprint races scheduled for the 2023 season.

They are scheduled to take place at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (Belgian Grand Prix) on Saturday, July 29; Lusail International Circuit (Qatar Grand Prix) on Saturday, October 7; Circuit of the Americas (United States Grand Prix) on Saturday, October 21; and Interlagos Circuit (Sao Paulo Grand Prix) on Saturday, November 5.
