The History

Petty is a seven-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion which ties him with Dale Earnhardt for the most in the history of the sport. Petty won his titles in 1964, 1967, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1979.

Along with his seven NASCAR titles, Petty has also won the Daytona 500 seven times (1964, 1966, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1979 and 1981). Petty is also a two-time World 600 winner and a former Southern 500 winner. Petty holds the Sprint Cup Series record for the most wins (200), the most wins in a season (27) in 1967, most pole awards won (123) and most consecutive wins in a season (10) in 1967.

The Legend

Petty was named NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver on eight different occasions in his career (1962, 1964, 1968, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978).

Petty finished his NASCAR career with 200 wins, 712 top-10’s and 123 poles in 1,184 races over 35 years. Petty is currently in the NASCAR Hall of Fame as well as the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
