Ten Lap Shootouts.

There’s obviously a negative and positive side to this. On one hand, drivers will get one more shot to battle it out and gain a few positions in the final laps. On the other hand, it may seem like the added excitement is artificial and unfair to drivers who have been leading for a majority of the race.

While that may be true, it is unfair for fans to constantly have to watch a driver run away with a win week after week. That kind of finish offers no climax for the end of the race and should make fans feel cheated for not seeing a thrilling duel between two or more drivers for the win. Doing this would not only make the last ten laps of any race a must see event, but will also allow drivers with a poor day to be able to savage a decent finish.

Drivers might complain about a rule like this, but the truth is, this is the top-level of racing. If you’re confident enough in your ability to hold off the rest of the field one more time, then maybe you don’t belong in The Sprint Cup Series, or in racing at all. At the end of the day, it should be about what in the fans and the sports best interest, and yes, this is in the sports best interest.
