Each week, BeyondTheFlag.com will bring you the Power Rankings heading into the upcoming event on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Schedule. The results will be derived from both season-to-date performance as well as the finish order from the most recent event. Be sure to check back each week to see if your favorite driver made the list, and to let us know if you agree or disagree!
This week the series returns to Michigan International Speedway where both Busch brothers made headlines back in June. Kurt, for his victory in the Quicken Loans 400 and Kyle, for his crash into the turn 4 wall after NASCAR elected to re-start the race during a rain shower. At the time, many thought Kyle’s poor finish certainly eliminated any chance he had to race his way into the 2015 Chase. Little did we all know the tear he was about to embark upon.
The Pure Michigan 400 will also see a return to the high-drag rules package last used at Indianapolis. Will this package have more of an effect on racing than it did at Indy? Michigan is a much different track, with it’s high-banked turns and very wide racing surface. Also, with the D-shaped oval having approximately 70% of it’s length in the turns (as opposed to Indy’s 40%,) will that make any difference? Tune in to find out! This week’s Power Rankings list is below:
New (or returning) to the list this week: 15, 88
Dropping off the list this week: 11, 47
