The Firestone 600 at Texas for the IndyCar Series has been delayed to August 27th. Here’s how social media reacted.
Following persistent rain and near constant weepers at Texas Motor Speedway, IndyCar and track officials were forced to postpone the event on Saturday night to Sunday. A small portion of the laps were run on Sunday, before the rain approached once more. This time, series officials were pushed to reschedule the race to August 27th, due to other commitments for the teams, including testing and some drivers running in the 24 hours of Le Mans.
Of course, the move is not entirely unprecedented for Texas. IndyCar once raced their twice a year, once in the summer and once in the fall. The fall race of 2001 was postponed from September to October due to the September 11th attacks. Nonetheless, it was a move that shocked many journalists and IndyCar fans:
So uh, the #IndyCar race at Texas has been rescheduled and will run...

...August 27th.
That's not a typo.
The last three #IndyCar races of the season were Pocono, Boston, and Sonoma. Now they're Texas, Watkins Glen, and Sonoma. #CalendarUpdate

Meanwhile, the IndyCar race at Texas is just hoping to finish in under 3 months.

My birthday is August 31. I accept @IndyCar and Texas Motor Speedway's gracious gift of a rescheduled race for August 27.

So @Hinchtown is going to lead for two months. He's going to have to block like crazy. @IndyCar

Of course, the jokes about the length of the race due to the rain delays started long before then:
What finishes first: IndyCar race at Texas or the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which begins next weekend?

Bet you five monopoly dollars it rains when IndyCar returns to Texas.

But even with the rain on Saturday and Sunday, the IndyCar drivers tried to keep the mood light and fun:
Getting up in the stands with @Hinchtown and the other @IndyCar guys was AWESOME! Thanks to the fans for hanging! pic.twitter.com/yqTHnVpu8s
