After coming up just short at Michigan, William Byron took the checkered flag on Saturday night at Iowa Speedway. But the whole top 5 was the big story.

Iowa Speedway marked the first standalone race of the 2017 season for the NASCAR Xfinity Series, meaning no Cup Series drivers to water down the field of up-and-coming stars. This allowed many new faces to shine near the front of the field, with William Byron earning his first career victory after coming up just short last week.
Byron, in his rookie year with JR Motorsports, led the most laps on Saturday night in Iowa, but he benefited from some interesting pit strategy late in the race. Not pitting under green and catching a fortunate yellow, Byron pitted from the top spot while those who already pitted got caught a lap down. This completely shuffled the field, leading to one of the most intriguing top five finishes in recent memory.
The driver of the #9 Chevrolet held off Ryan Sieg for the win, with the underfunded #39 team getting their best ever finish. Tyler Reddick for Chip Ganassi Racing came home in 3rd, followed by Ross Chastain and Dakoda Armstrong rounding out the top 5. All five of the drivers up front earned their best career finishes.
The race took on a very Camping World Truck Series-like flare with Christopher Bell on pole and leading early. He battled often with former competitors William Byron and Tyler Reddick for the top spot, while Daniel Hemric and Ben Kennedy also carried the banner for Richard Childress Racing. Sadly, all but Byron and Reddick finished outside the top10.
