Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon claimed both his first and the team’s first victory of the 2017 season with his win at Road America.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon became the eighth different winner in 10 IndyCar races so far this season with his victory in the Kohler Grand Prix at the 14-turn, 4.014-mile Road America natural terrain road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. He held off Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, who finished in 2nd place, by just 0.5779 seconds. The win was Dixon’s 41st career victory, moving him to within one victory of the top 3 of all-time.

The win was Dixon’s first since he won last season at Watkins Glen, and the win was also the team’s first since that race as well. It also marked both Dixon’s and the team’s first victory since switching back to Honda engines and aero kits after three seasons using Chevrolet engines and aero kits.

More from IndyCar

Honda now has six victories this season to Chevrolet’s four, but this win was more of an upset than anything. Team Penske took the top 4 spots in qualifying, and all four of the team’s cars did finish the race in the top 5. However, it was not meant to be, as all four of Team Penske’s drivers finished behind Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dixon.

Other Notable Statistics

The race featured a total of six lead changes among four different drivers. Scott Dixon led the most laps, leading 24 of the race’s 55.

The race featured two caution flag periods for a total of three laps. The first caution flag of the race came out on lap 29 when Takuma Sato spun out in turn 11. The second and final caution flag of the race came out on lap 46 when Tony Kanaan crashed hard into the turn 11 wall.
