The 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season is in its 13th race with the Honda Indy 200. Who looked solid in the third practice session?
Andretti Herta Autosport’s Alexander Rossi topped this weekend’s third IndyCar practice session at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio with a top lap time of 64.2303 seconds (126.557 miles per hour) around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile natural terrain road course.
Rossi led a top 2 Andretti Autosport sweep and a top 4 Honda sweep in the practice session, with Takuma Sato, Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan rounding out the top 4. The fastest driver of a Chevrolet car was Josef Newgarden, who was 5th fastest in the practice session.

The top three Chevrolet drivers were Team Penske drivers. Although the team’s drivers did take three of the top 10 spots, they were nowhere near as dominant as they have been throughout the season, especially with Will Power only ending up 19th fastest in the session.
But aside of the Team Penske drivers, the next highest driver of a Chevrolet car was Spencer Pigot, who was 13th fastest in the practice session; all 13 Honda drivers ended up among the top 17 spots.
The series lone full-time rookie, Ed Jones, was 14th quickest in his Dale Coyne Racing Honda. Jones’ rookie teammate Esteban Gutierrez finished 16th quickest in the practice session. Mikhail Aleshin, who is making his return for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, finished 15th quickest in the practice session in his Honda car. Full practice results are located at IndyCar.com.
