Kyle Larson has won the last two NASCAR Cup Series races at Michigan International Speedway. Can he make it three in a row this Sunday?

Coming into the 22nd of 36 races in the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season at Michigan, Kyle Larson has two victories so far this season and three in his Cup Series career. All three of those victories have come on 2.0-mile ovals, with Larson winning the second Michigan race last season as well as the Fontana race and the first Michigan race this season.

Larson, 25, comes into the Pure Michigan 400 on Sunday having won the past two Michigan races and the past three races on 2.0-mile ovals, so he’ll be looking to add to those streaks. Will he pull it off to get himself back on the right track?

He will roll off in 9th place on Sunday. Starting in 9th should definitely not be a huge obstacle for him over the course of a 400-mile race at a track like Michigan. After all, he started in 12th place and won last year’s second Michigan race for his first career Cup Series victory.

However, his two races this season have been won from the pole position, so it would be a first in the 2017 season if he ends up pulling off his third consecutive win at Michigan and fourth on 2.0-mile ovals after starting on the inside of Row 5 on Sunday.

More from NASCAR

While Larson has been the dominant driver on 2.0-mile ovals, especially Michigan, over the past two seasons, he has been on a bit of a cold streak as of late. Over the past seven races, he has just two finishes inside the top 22, and he is currently on a streak of three consecutive finishes of 23rd place or lower.

Larson once held the lead in the championship standings, but he continues to fall and now sits in 3rd place a total of 122 points behind the leader, Martin Truex Jr. He needs a few great results to reestablish himself as a championship contender. Michigan may very well be the place for him to get back on the right track, as he has had far more recent success there and on 2.0-mile ovals in general than any other driver. Can he get the job done?
