NASCAR Xfinity Series: Mid-Ohio Challenge results – Sam Hornish Jr. wins
By Asher Fair
In the second road course race of the NASCAR Xfinity Series season, Sam Hornish Jr. won the Mid-Ohio Challenge at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Road course racing has become a bit of an acquired taste for NASCAR fans in recent years. Many have clamored for more lefts and rights in stock car racing, and the Xfinity Series returned to road racing in 2017 at Watkins Glen last week.
This week featured the Xfinity Series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio for the Mid-Ohio Challenge in a standalone race that featured no full-time Cup Series drivers, which was different from Watkins Glen, which saw Kyle Busch end up victorious.
While there were no full-time Cup Series drivers driving in the race, the race winner still ended up not being a full-time Xfinity Series driver. Sam Hornish Jr. took the checkered flag in front of the rest of the field in just his third Xfinity Series race of the season. The win was the first of his Xfinity Series career at Mid-Ohio.

Each of the top 5 finishers in the race earned their career-high finishes in the Xfinity Series, something that is extremely rare in any racing series. Daniel Hemric was the highest finishing full-time Xfinity Series driver in 2nd place, and he was followed by Matt Tifft, James Davison and Andy Lally in 3rd, 4th and 5th place, respectively.
