The qualifying session for the 2017 Bommarito Automotive Group 500 set the starting grid for the 15th of 17 IndyCar races this season. Who will roll off in what position tomorrow?
Team Penske’s Will Power took the pole position for the 2017 Bommarito Automotive Group 500 IndyCar race at the four-turn, 1.25-mile Gateway Motorsports Park oval in Madison, Illinois. The pole is the 50th of his career, which ties him for 3rd on the all-time list.
Power became the second final qualifier of an oval race in a row to take pole after Takuma Sato pulled it off last week at Pocono. In the final qualifying run of the day, Power bumped his teammate Josef Newgarden off of the top spot with a two-lap average of 189.642, which shattered the previous track record.
In pursuit of a 1-2-3-4 finish in the championship standings, the four Team Penske drivers will start 1st through 4th tomorrow night. Newgarden will start alongside Power, with Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud set to line up behind Power and Newgarden, respectively.
