NASCAR: 2017 SportClips/VFW 200 Race Results – Hamlin Strikes Back
By Alex Herbst
On a last lap slide job, Denny Hamlin held off a hungry Joey Logano for the win in the Xfinity Series at Darlington Raceway on NASCAR’s throwback weekend.
NASCAR‘s throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway is always a treat for fans of classic stock car racing. The racing dessert began on Saturday with the Xfinity Series racing around the Lady in Black, trying to keep their cars off the famous walls. At the end of the day, Denny Hamlin pounced on the final restart, pulling off the famed crossover move on Joey Logano to take the win.
Hamlin, who started on the pole for today’s SportClips / VFW 200 at Darlington, held off a number of hungry Cup Series drivers for the victory. Joey Logano got the jump on the winner on the final lap, but lost out when Hamlin pulled a crossover on the #22 Ford in turn 4. Logano would end up coming home second.
Kevin Harvick, who swept the first two stages of the race, looked like the clear favorite early. However, when the #41 Ford lost the lead, he was mired too much in traffic, and had to settle for third. Erik Jones and William Byron rounded out the top five.
