NASCAR: Ty Dillon remaining at Germain Racing for at least two more seasons
By Asher Fair
NASCAR Cup Series rookie driver Ty Dillon is set to stay with Germain Racing for at least two more seasons. Geico will remain his primary sponsor.
Ty Dillon, 25, and Germain Racing agreed to a multi-year contract that will keep him with the team for at least another two seasons in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team also announced that they reached a sponsorship agreement with GEICO that will keep the car insurance company on the side of the #13 Chevrolet.
Dillon has driven in 43 career Cup Series races thus far, with 25 of them coming this season. In 2014 and 2015, he drove some races for Richard Childress Racing, and last season, he drove some races for Leavine Family Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing, giving him a total of 18 races of competition in the Cup Series before he officially became a rookie with a full-time ride.
Through 43 races in his Cup Series career, Dillon has failed to finish just four races, with three of those DNF’s coming this season. In the 22 of 25 races that he has finished so far this season, an impressive statistic in itself for a rookie driving for a one-car team, he has finished in the top 20 a total of 16 times.

In several races this season, Dillon has been a factor late, as he was in the mix to claim his first career Cup Series victory at Talladega, Dover and Daytona. However, he hasn’t been able to pull through yet and has only finished as high as 13th place, which he has done twice, once at Talladega and once at least week’s Darlington race.
When Ryan Blaney was announced as Team Penske’s third driver in the 2018 season, Paul Menard, who currently drives the #27 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, was announced as the driver of Blaney’s current ride in the #21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford.
Given the facts that Richard Childress is Ty Dillon’s grandfather and Austin Dillon, Ty’s brother, drives the #3 Chevrolet for the team and has for four seasons now, Ty was expected to take over Menard’s current ride in the #27 car. However, that will not be the case, although Germain Racing does have a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing.
