After four seasons in IndyCar with Chip Ganassi Racing, Tony Kanaan is likely headed to AJ Foyt Enterprises for the next two, and maybe his final two, IndyCar seasons.

While not yet 100% confirmed, Tony Kanaan appears to be headed to AJ Foyt Enterprises on a two-year agreement starting next IndyCar season to drive the #14 Chevrolet currently driven by Carlos Munoz.

Kanaan, 42, is in his 15th full-time season in the modern-day IndyCar Series and his 20th full-time season in IndyCar. In terms of the modern-day series, Kanaan has finished lower than 9th place in the championship standings just once, and he won the championship back in 2004. He sits in 9th place in this year’s standings with one race remaining at Sonoma.

He is in his fourth season driving for Chip Ganassi Racing and 10th season driving a Honda-powered car in the modern-day series. He opened up his career driving for Andretti Green Racing from 2003 to 2010 (renamed to Andretti Autosport in 2010) in a Honda car before transitioning to KV Racing in 2011 and continuing to drive a Honda.

Then in 2012 when the DW12 chassis was introduced, Kanaan continued driving for KV Racing, but in a Chevrolet car when the company reentered the sport. In the 2013 season, he won the Indianapolis 500 driving for KV Racing with Chevy power before making the transition to Chip Ganassi Racing in 2014 when they switched from Honda to Chevrolet.

Chip Ganassi Racing used Chevrolet engines from 2014 through 2016, switching back to Honda this season, allowing Kanaan to make his return to Honda after five straight seasons with Chevrolet and allowing him to drive a Honda for the first time in the DW12 era.

If the AJ Foyt Enterprises transition is confirmed for Kanaan, he will go back to Chevrolet after one season with Honda, making him a Chevrolet driver in six of the seven seasons since the introduction of the DW12 chassis, assuming AJ Foyt Enterprises does, indeed, stick with Chevy power next season. They just switched from Honda to Chevrolet before this season began after opening up the DW12 era with five straight seasons of running Honda-powered cars.
