Lewis Hamilton once again has the chance to make more Formula One history, this time in this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton is coming off of a Mexican Grand Prix last week during which he secured his fourth career Formula One championship, becoming the fifth driver in the history of the sport to have ever done so. He now trails only two drivers, Michael Schumacher and Juan Manuel Fangio, on the all-time Formula One titles list. Schumacher won seven championships, while Fangio won five.
Now at this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, which will be held on Sunday at the 15-turn, 2.677-mile Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Hamilton has the chance to make even more history by extending one of his own streaks, a record streak that he currently holds which no driver is even or has ever even been close to touching.
In the history of Formula One, there have been seven seasons during which a driver has won 10 or more races. Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel both won 13 races in 2004 and 2013, respectively; Schumacher, Vettel and Hamilton all won 11 races in 2002, 2011 and 2014, respectively; and Lewis Hamilton won 10 races in both 2015 and 2016.

Hamilton currently has nine victories to his name through 18 races so far this season, so if he were to win this year’s Brazilian Grand Prix, that would give him 10 wins in a season for the fourth time, something that no other driver has done more than twice. It would also allow him to extend his record streak of three straight double-digit win seasons to four while no other driver has ever even won double-digit races in back-to-back seasons.
Theoretically, Hamilton is the only Formula One driver who has ever actually had a streak of double-digit win seasons at all since no other driver has ever won 10 or more races two seasons in a row. So the fact that he has won 10 or more races in three seasons in a row as it is is extremely impressive. But a fourth season in a row of double-digit wins would be even more impressive — and even more historic. Can he get the job done this weekend?
Next: Looking back at Lewis Hamilton's record-setting accomplishment
Will Lewis Hamilton be able to extend his record streak of consecutive double-digit win seasons with a win in this Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix, or will he have to wait until the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to try again? If he has to wait, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is the final race of the 2017 Formula One season, will be his last chance to do so before he runs the risk of that historic streak resetting. Be sure to tune in to the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday, November 12th at 11:00 AM ET when it will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network to find out.
