Championship weekend kicks off at Homestead-Miami Speedway for NASCAR with a new Camping World Truck Series winner and champion.

Miami marks the end of the 2017 campaign for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, with just four drivers battling for one championship. However, 28 other drivers with their own agendas would also be on track trying to check off a win in the season finale.

At the end of the night, two new faces were celebrating, with Chase Briscoe winning his first career Truck race and Christopher Bell claiming his first NASCAR championship.

Starting with the race, it was a quiet affair in the Ford EcoBoost 200, with the only two cautions coming out for the end of each stage. Much of the time at the front of the field was taken by drivers not in the hunt for the championship, with Ben Rhodes and Chase Briscoe mostly leading. It would come down to fuel mileage between these two young guns, with the #29 team beating the #27.

Briscoe’s win is significant, as his team Brad Keselowski Racing will be shutting down at the end of 2017. The win allows the team to end on a high note, coming up just short of a championship season, however. His teammate, Austin Cindric, was among the Championship 4 on Friday night, but was not able to close the deal.

In the title fight, four drivers entered the night with a chance at hoisting the Camping World Truck Series trophy. Matt Crafton, Austin Cindric, Christopher Bell, and Johnny Sauter were in the hunt. Two of these truckers, Crafton and Sauter, have already won championships. But at the end of the night, second place was enough for Christopher Bell to claim his first Truck Series title, and first in NASCAR.

The title for the #4 team marks the second driver’s championship for Kyle Busch Motorsports, following up on Erik Jones’s title two years prior. Bell earned the most wins this season in the Truck Series, along with 21 top ten finishes. He will now carry the distinction of reigning series champion forward with him to the Xfinity Series in 2018, where he will race full-time with Joe Gibbs Racing.
