Denny Hamlin will start from the pole position in the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the final NASCAR Cup Series race of the season.

The 36th and final race of the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Ford EcoBoost 400, is set to take place at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida this Sunday. The race is the lone race of the Championship 4 during which the four remaining championship-eligible drivers will battle to win the 2017 championship.

All four of the Championship 4 drivers will start the race in the top 9, with Martin Truex Jr. leading them in 2nd place. Kyle Busch will start 3rd, Brad Keselowski will start 5th and Kevin Harvick will start 9th.

But it was a non-Championship 4 driver stealing the pole position from Martin Truex Jr. late in the final lap of the third and final round of qualifying. Denny Hamlin will start the race from the pole position for his 26th career Cup Series pole, second career pole at Homestead-Miami and second pole of the season. Hamlin was eliminated from championship contention in the final race of the Round of 8 last Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.

The four Championship 4 drivers will all start the race with 5,000 championship points, and the highest finisher of those four drivers in the race will be crowned the 2017 Cup Series champion. Those four drivers will be unable to earn any stage points throughout the race to ensure that the highest finisher of the four does, in fact, come away with the most championship points and win this season’s championship.
