After months of questions about whether or not they would re-sign, NASCAR and Goodyear have announced a multi-year extension to the sport’s tire deal.

Instability has marked the year 2017 for NASCAR, with uncertainty for many teams, drivers, and sponsors dominating the headlines. But one of the most important partners in stock car racing reaffirmed their commitment to the sport this week, with Goodyear re-signing with the sanctioning body in a multi-year deal to provide tires to the sport.

As reported by Motorsport.com, the new deal between NASCAR and the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company will go through at least 2022, and call for the manufacturer to provide tire for all three national touring series. No word yet on any impacts for the K&N Pro Series, where Goodyear has also provided the tires. Potentially General Tire, which acquired the Hoosier brand two years ago, could fill this void.

NASCAR President Brent Dewar had this to say about the renewed commitment of Goodyear to stock car racing:

"“We proudly join Goodyear in celebrating our renewed and longstanding partnership. For more than half a century, NASCAR and our teams have trusted Goodyear tires. Our partners’ commitment to innovation and excellence plays a key role in our unyielding pursuit to deliver the best racing product in the world.”"

More from NASCAR

The late announcement of this deal quells many concerns and rumblings that Goodyear could exit the sport and reinvest those funds elsewhere. After all, the tire company has invested heavily in recent years in other sports outside of racing, including title sponsorship of the Cotton Bowl Classic, a partner of the College Football Playoff, and as a jersey patch for the Cleveland Cavaliers. NASCAR remains the only series that Goodyear supplies with tires.

Rich Kramer, chairman and CEO of Goodyear, spoke of the role NASCAR plays with the company’s brand:

"“We are tremendously proud of the pivotal role Goodyear plays in the best racing competition in the world and excited that NASCAR drivers will be crossing the finish line on Goodyear tires in the years ahead. With this new agreement in place, we celebrate our enduring relationship with NASCAR and the continuing value of NASCAR to the Goodyear brand.”"

With Goodyear re-signing with NASCAR, it means there will be no tire competition and no new suppliers to the sport until at least 2022. Are you happy to see Goodyear staying with stock car racing for five more years?
