NASCAR: 2017 Ford EcoBoost 400 results – Martin Truex Jr. is the champion
By Asher Fair
Martin Truex Jr. closed out a dominant season with a win in the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, giving him his first career NASCAR Cup Series championship.
The 36th and final race of the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series season was the Ford EcoBoost 400, which took place at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida, the host of the Championship 4. The 2017 Cup Series champion would be crowned at this race.
Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr. and Brad Keselowski entered the race as the four Championship 4 drivers. Only Truex Jr. had never won a career Cup Series championship coming into the race. Busch won in 2015, Harvick won in 2014 and Keselowski won in 2012.
Martin Truex Jr. put an end to that by securing his first career Cup Series championship, and he did so by winning the Ford EcoBoost 400. The win was his eighth of the 2017 season and his 15th of his 12-year career as a full-time Cup Series driver.

Truex Jr. held off Kyle Busch in the closing laps of the race. The 2015 champion ended up coming home in 2nd place just ahead of Kyle Larson, the top non-Championship 4 finisher who had not finished in any of the last four races. Busch ended up finishing in 2nd in the final standings because of his 2nd place result behind Truex Jr.
The two other Championship 4 drivers, Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski, finished the race in 4th and 7th place, respectively, giving them 3rd and 4th place finishes in the final standings.
