Formula One: Lewis Hamilton apologizes for Instagram video
By Asher Fair
Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton has apologizing for posting an Instagram video that some people have deemed as controversial.
Four-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton posted a video, which was recorded on Christmas Day, and posted it on Instagram. This video, which has since been deleted, was deemed as controversial by some people, which is what ultimately prompted Hamilton to delete it.
In the video is Hamilton’s four-year-old nephew Kaiden wearing a princess dress and holding a toy magic wand.
Hamilton started the video by addressing his followers, stating the following, according to the BBC:
"“I’m so sad right now. Look at my nephew.”"

The four-time champion then proceeded to film his nephew wearing the dress and carrying the wand. He then asked him the following, according to the BBC:
"“Why are you wearing a princess dress? Is this what you got for Christmas? Why did you ask for a princess dress for Christmas? Boys don’t wear princess dresses!”"
After receiving backlash, particularly on social media, for recording and posting this video, especially for his remarks in it, Hamilton deleted it and issued an apology on Twitter. He issued this apology in three separate tweets. All three of those tweets are shown below.
Given the extremely small impact, if even that can be said, of the video, the situation should be done and over with. However, in today’s day an age, that is sadly not the case, and the backlash that the four-time champion continues to receive is ridiculous.
This whole idea will be touched on and explored in more depth in a later opinion article — this article is only meant to present the facts so you have something to make your judgment on if you haven’t already or if you were not even aware of what went on.

Was Lewis Hamilton’s video a big deal or even a little deal, or was it blown out of proportion, like many things tend to be nowadays? Should he have not apologized, or was his apology appropriate for the situation? Regardless of the answers to those questions, the situation looks like it is over now — on his end, anyway.
