IndyCar: Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is a possible Indianapolis 500 option for Danica Patrick
By Asher Fair
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is one of Danica Patrick’s best options in terms of teams with which she can make her IndyCar return in the Indianapolis 500.
With GoDaddy set to return to racing for the first time since 2015 to sponsor Danica Patrick in her final two career races, the 2018 Daytona 500 in the NASCAR Cup Series and the 2018 Indianapolis 500 in IndyCar, the next step for her to drive in these races is finding a team for which to do so.
As far as the Indianapolis 500 goes, Chip Ganassi Racing and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports have already ruled out fielding an entry for Patrick. In fact, her odds of landing a ride became very slim as a result of this.
However, there are still several teams for which she could end up driving in the 102nd running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, and she could have a competitive ride for those teams as well. One of those teams is Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.

In the past, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing have been a full-time IndyCar. However, they have recently been an Indianapolis 500-only team. In each of the last two and three of the last four seasons, they have fielded an entry for 22-year-old Sage Karam, and it appears that they will do the same in 2018.
In 2014, Karam finished in 9th place for the team after starting back in 31st. In 2016, he was also fast for the team. He made his way up to 5th place on lap 94 of 200 of the race after starting in 23rd.
However, he then crashed trying to pass Townsend Bell, who was the team’s driver in the race in 2015 when Karam was driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, for 4th. In 2017, he really never had much speed and finished in 28th place as a result of a battery failure on lap 126 after starting in 21st.
Overall, Karam has had speed with the team, so Patrick would definitely have a great chance to be competitive. Seeing as how the team are set to run two entries in the race this year and Danica Patrick is one of the drivers with whom they have been in contact, it would not be surprising to see Karam and Patrick as teammates at Indianapolis this May.
Here is what Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team owner Dennis Reinbold had to say on the matter, according to Racer.com.
"“I have spoken with her people, but I don’t know where we’re at with them.”"
