NASCAR: Austin Dillon gets Daytona 500 ‘champ’ tattoo on posterior
By Asher Fair
Austin Dillon celebrated his second career NASCAR Cup Series victory in the Daytona 500 by getting a tattoo on his posterior.
Austin Dillon led just one of the 207 laps Sunday’s Daytona 500, the 60th annual running of the race, at the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway tri-oval in Daytona, Florida in his #3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.
But Dillon led lap 207, the final lap of the race, which took place in overtime thanks to a wreck that took place on lap 199 with just two scheduled laps remaining, and won the race as a result of it, thus starting off the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season with a victory, which is the second victory of his career. His other win came in last year’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Dillon’s win didn’t come without controversy, however. His #3 Chevrolet made contact with the #10 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford of Aric Almirola heading into turn 3 on the final lap of the race, and this caused Almirola to spin out. Dillon went on to win the race as a result of this.

To celebrate, Dillon and several of his crew members pulled off their signature slide through the infield grass after Dillon had emerged from his car and before he pulled his #3 Chevrolet into victory lane, which marked the first time since Dale Earnhardt won the 1998 Daytona 500 in his #3 Chevrolet that that had happened.
But later that night and into Monday morning, Dillon and several of his crew members continued their celebration by getting tattoos. According to ESPN, Dillon’s tattoo, he states, includes the Daytona 500 logo with the word “champ” underneath it.
However, we will just have to take Dillon’s word for it as a result of one key detail.
"“You’ll never be able to see it. It’s a pretty cool looking today. [My wife] Whitney is probably the only one that is going to see it for a while.”"
Why? Because Dillon’s tattoo is located on his posterior.
"“It hurt. It feels OK this morning, but one of my boys smacked me on the butt when I came over here, and I was like, ‘Easy, guys.'”"

Will Austin Dillon’s 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season build on the success he had in the Daytona 500 on Sunday to potentially make a run for the 2018 championship? With a playoff spot pretty much locked up barring a penalty or at least 16 more different winners in the remaining 25 regular season races, there will be far less pressure on him. With him driving the new Chevrolet Camaro, it may not be out of the question.
