NASCAR Team Power Rankings – Richard Childress Racing on top after Daytona
By Asher Fair
Richard Childress Racing open up the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series on the first ever edition of our formulated team power rankings thanks to their Daytona 500 victory.
Richard Childress Racing made the offseason move to eliminate the #27 Chevrolet so that they would operate as a two-car full-time team as opposed to a three-car full-time team.
Also, in addition to their preexisting technical alliance with Germain Racing, they formed a technical alliance with Richard Petty Motorsports this offseason as well.
One race into the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, these moves appears to be paying dividends. Austin Dillon, the driver of the #3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, opened up the season with a victory in the Daytona 500. The win was the second of his Cup Series career.

Richard Petty Motorsports’ Darrell Wallace Jr. finished the race in a career-high 2nd place in just his fifth career Cup Series race.
Will the success of these two teams continue as the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season progresses, or is the fact that the Daytona 500 is a restrictor plate race a key reason why these teams had such hot starts to the new season?
With one of the 36 races in the 2018 season in the books and 35 to go before the next champion is crowned in November, let’s have a look at the first ever edition of our new formulated NASCAR Cup Series Team Power Rankings.
