IndyCar: Sage Karam to drive for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in Indianapolis 500
By Asher Fair
Sage Karam is set to return to IndyCar as a driver for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500.
Sage Karam, 22, is set to drive in his fifth career Indianapolis 500 race and his fifth consecutive Indianapolis 500 race in this year’s edition of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, and he is set to do so for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing once again.
For the third straight IndyCar season, Karam is set to drive in the Indianapolis 500 as a part of a one-race deal for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. In fact, in each of the three previous races he has driven for the team, it has been as a part of an Indianapolis 500-only deal.
Karam drove for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in his first Indianapolis 500 back in 2014, and he did so in each of the last two seasons as well. He only did not drive for the team in the 2015 edition of the race as a result of the fact that he had what was almost a full-time ride driving for Chip Ganassi Racing.
Since his first Indianapolis 500 race in 2014, Karam has not had much success in the race. In 2014, he started the race back in 31st place before going on to advance a total of 22 positions throughout the race en route to a 9th place finish in his first career IndyCar start.

But in the 2015 edition of the race, Karam was involved in a first-turn crash on the first lap of the race along with Takuma Sato. He was officially classified as finishing the race in 32nd place.
Then in 2016, Karam wrecked in the first turn again when trying to make a pass on Townsend Bell on lap 94 for 4th place. He was again classified as finishing the race in 32nd place.
Last year, Karam ended up failing to finish the race as a result of a battery failure. He was classified as finishing the race in 28th place after completing just 125 of the race’s 200 laps.
In Karam’s 15 career IndyCar starts, which have taken place over a four-year span, he has finished 10 races. He has three top 10 finishes and two top 5 finishes. His career-high 3rd place finish came at Iowa in the 2015 season.
