Could Conor Daly, who no longer has a full-time IndyCar ride, end up driving for Dale Coyne Racing in the Indianapolis 500?

Conor Daly, 26, does not have a full-time ride in IndyCar this season for the first time since the 2015 season. However, he still wants to drive in the 102nd Indianapolis 500 on Memorial Day weekend at the end of May.

Is there a chance that Daly could end up doing so driving for Dale Coyne Racing, the team he drove for full-time in the 2016 season?

Dale Coyne Racing are set to run three cars in this year’s Indianapolis 500. Full-time driver Sebastien Bourdais is set to drive the #18 Honda, rookie part-time driver Pietro Fittipaldi is set to drive the #19 Honda, and Indianapolis 500-only driver Pippa Mann will likely drive the #63 Honda.

However, it is no secret that Dale Coyne Racing may run four cars in the 102nd running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” this season. One potential candidate to drive that fourth car is part-time driver Zachary Claman DeMelo, who is set to share driving time in the #19 Honda with Fittipaldi throughout the season.

Another potential candidate is most certainly Daly, who still wants to drive in the Indianapolis 500 despite the fact that he no longer has a full-time ride this season after driving full-time for Dale Coyne Racing in the 2016 season and A.J. Foyt Enterprises last season.

In four career Indianapolis 500 races, Daly has just one finish, and that finish is only a 22nd place result in the 2013 race when he drove for A.J. Foyt Enterprises after starting in 31st. In the 2016 Indianapolis 500 when he drove for Dale Coyne Racing, he finished in 29th after starting in 24th.

An engine failure before the 2015 Indianapolis 500 began kept Daly from competing in that race when he drove for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, and another wreck took him out of the 2017 Indianapolis 500 when he also drove for A.J. Foyt Enterprises.

Will Conor Daly end up landing a ride for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 this May, and if so, will he drive in the race for one of his former teams, Dale Coyne Racing? The race is set to take place on Sunday, May 27th at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana, and it is set to be broadcast live on ABC starting at 11:00 am ET.
