Despite having been eliminated prior to the start of the 2018 Formula 1 season, the “Grid Girls” are set to make a surprise return in the near future.

Formula 1 announced over two months ago that the 2018 season would be contested without the presence of the “Grid Girls” for the first time in several decades. They also announced that these girls would not be coming back, at least not in the foreseeable future.

However, this may not end up being completely true, as the “Grid Girls” are set to make an appearance in the Monaco Grand Prix, which is the sixth race of the 21-race 2018 season. The Monaco Grand Prix is the crown jewel on the Formula 1 calendar, and this year’s running of the event is the 76th running of the event.

The race is set to be contested on the 19-race, 3.337-kilometer (2.074-mile) Circuit de Monaco temporary street circuit in Monte Carlo, Monaco for the 64th consecutive season dating back to the 1955 season.

As referenced above, the “Grid Girls” will be making an appearance in the Monaco Grand Prix in what is essentially an act of defiance by the race against the ruling of Liberty Media, the mass media company that completed their purchase of Formula 1 last year, to do away with the “Grid Girls” and ultimately replace them with the “Grid Kids”.

Here is what ACM president Michel Boeri had to say about the matter, according to ESPN.

"“The relationship is good with Liberty Media, because they understand that Monaco is not Spa or Monza. We’ve had no problems with Liberty Media, except for the grid girl issue. They’ll be there, on the grid, but won’t be holding any name-boards. They’re pretty and the cameras will be on them once again.”"

According to Dmitry Kozak, the deputy prime minister of the Russian Federation, there is a push to get the “Grid Girls” on the grid for the Russian Grand Prix later this season when the race is held on Sunday, September 30th.

Here is what Kozak had to say about the matter, according to ESPN.

"“If we can reach an agreement we will revive this tradition. Moreover, our girls are the most beautiful.”"
